OPENLOT, our most radical format, is a self-curated, communal research environment based on Vladimir Miller’s “Polyset”, where artists and researchers co-create and reshape their practices in a shared work space. It disrupts traditional structures by rethinking boundaries between disciplines. OPENLOT is an experiment where anything can happen but nothing has to.

//WHY:

New art needs new space - using the same spatial structures leads to repetitive methods and similar results. To counteract this, we open up Das LOT to everybody without the pressure of delivering results. By disrupting already established structures, this format helps us avoid becoming too institutionalized. Last but not least there is no space like this in Vienna offering artists collective work space without any fee, appointment or application.

//HOW:

For one month each year, Das LOT transforms into an open, free communal environment where artists and researchers of all disciplines can work independently within a collaborative community. Participants negotiate ways of working together, share materials, and access a small budget, all in a space free from external events and open to any practice. By disrupting traditional practices, we explore what a transdisciplinary space can actually look like, creating a cozy, atelier-like network that encourages creative freedom and helps us avoid institutionalization. All you need to join is time to work and an openness to new experiences.
