Curational Statement - a try

Dear people,

In dark times, it is important not to lose your tongue.

Not only since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel and the subsequent wars and humanitarian catastrophes, many people feel that they no longer have words for what they see happening in this world - for the violence, the grief, the fear and for their own helplessness and insecurity.

The discussion about the unleashed violence in the Middle East since October 7 has been heated and complicated. Some statements have unintentionally fueled the conflict, as much as those that have kept quiet. Although it is so difficult to talk about it, we should try. We want to try to frame our speechlessness with words to prevent our silence from being misunderstood. It is because our commitment to culture calls for condemnation of terror and violence and for empathy and solidarity with the desperate people around the world and in our immediate neighbourhood.

We want to try to remain listeners, to give space and to search together for possible words - words that can perhaps also give us hope and courage. To lighten our hearts and minds even in dark times. To make us find new ways and possibilities to share agency in the face of paralyzation.

Therefore we would like to ask you:

- What gives you Hope?
