FAVORITE FALL

FAVORITE FALL is a 7-day, decentralized cultural festival in Vienna's Favoriten district. Founded in 2023 to mark the district's 150th anniversary, it brings art, culture, and civil society to unusual locations and public spaces. It connects Brotfabrik, Sonnwendviertel, Böhmischer Prater, and other neighborhoods with a densely curated program of concerts, performances, screenings, exhibitions, audio walks, workshops, and walking acts—inviting visitors to rediscover the 10th district and celebrate cultural diversity.

UNDER ONE ROOF
FAVORITE FALL aims to highlight the cultural potential of Favoriten and counteract the often negative image portrayed in the media with a positive, diverse narrative. The goal is to create spaces for encounter, involve communities, and engage in an open urban dialogue with artists, initiatives, and institutions. The festival promotes participation, inclusion, and cultural diversity, thereby contributing to sustainable urban development.

ART AGAINST PREJUDICE
With 80–100 transdisciplinary program items, FAVORITE FALL sees itself as an umbrella for existing art and cultural initiatives in the 10th district, supplemented by targeted open calls. This creates synergies that enable visitors to move artistically through the district. The grand finale weekend culminates at the Brotfabrik, while in between, the festival takes over public spaces with interventions, flash mobs, and participatory formats. Free admission and barrier-free communication ensure maximum accessibility.

IN THE ECOSYSTEM
FAVORITE FALL is the festival format of the ECHOLOTEcosystem: the moment when the threads of a year's artistic work come together and are made accessible to a large, heterogeneous audience. It transfers our principles of relational art and “sending & receiving” from LOT to the entire district, brings outputs such as the [AR]TWALKs into the urban space, and tests their resonance beyond Das LOT. At the same time, new collaborations and project ideas emerge, which flow back into the next cycle and enrich it.

NEXT STEP
In 2026, FAVORITE FALL will once again be curated by ECHOLOT and realized in collaboration with partners from Favoriten in a transdisciplinary festival team. A new feature is the digital festival map—an interactive AR map of the district that navigates visitors through the festival while creating a growing virtual model of Favoriten. It links the ARTWALKS with other digital artworks and will remain in place beyond the festival as a permanent archive of memories and art points for residents, schools, tourists, and cultural partners.
