About the event
This performance is a new experimental solo work by Yumi Umiumare, blending Butoh, tea, and visual installation. Yumi explores the space between daily routines and ritual, the mundane and the devotional, through both classical and contemporary tea ceremonies. The piece moves from the sedate to the dramatic, from the real to the surreal, and from the playful to the macabre—a journey into life and death, evoking the spirit of Butoh.
The work is a new manifestation of Yumi’s recent focus on dance, tea, and spirit, using tea drinking as a catalyst, gateway, and transformation into transcendent realms.
