About the project

THE ARTWALK ENTERS ITS THIRD ROUND
It is important to us to take our art out into the public space again and again: A regular swarming out into our immediate neighborhood, the district and the outskirts of Vienna to conduct artistic urban surveys and communicate them publicly in an ARTWALK. Equipped with microphones, radio headphones and recorded interviews, we invite the public to explore the surroundings in an artistic way. Our aim is to create a lasting encounter and look behind the façade. There will be artistic interventions at several stations along the way. The whole thing will be interwoven with our research and interviews with contemporary witnesses from our story collection point:

THE BROTFABRIK AS PROTAGONIST

After our “field research Favoriten” have taken us across the 10th district over the last two years, from Viktor-Adler-Markt all the way up to the Bohemian Prater, it is time for us to artistically question our immediate surroundings: as a local cultural association that conceives and rehearses its projects in the historic brickworks of the former granary, we now want to take a closer look at the walls that surround us. Since our foundation on the site, we have come into contact with the location and its past on a daily basis. Again and again, former workers or their descendants come by, whose stories and anecdotes we capture and who make us want to know more. If you have something to tell or know someone who might have something interesting to say about the site and the history of the Ankerbrotfabrik, please write to us - or leave us a voice message via WhatsApp

WE READ TIME IN THE ROOMS
With our project, we are seeking to enter the topic not through the historical past, but through its heirs in the present: a daughter who is trying to decipher her secretive mother. A son struggling with the Nazi spirit of his father. Together with the audience, we follow her verses and accompany her every step of the way in her search for clues through time. We are also interested in shedding light on the darker chapters of history, such as the Aryanization of the company at the time, and re-examining what has been forgotten or repressed.

BRINGING RESEARCH TO LIFE
In cooperation with INSELMILIEU Reportage, we want to sift through history and pursue lost traces. A walk-in research, sensually enhanced by scenic, visual and musical interventions. History inscribes itself in spaces and bodies and occupies places with memories. We follow this principle and thus create an artistic-historical archive that can be experienced spatially: in which the historical walls are made to speak, the past becomes alive and the present becomes history.

P.s.: The smell of freshly baked bread will only waft over the bread factory site until the end of the year. Because Ankerbrot is moving out for good!
